To find your specialty starts with what you find interesting. Do you like children? How about elderly people?
Working on a medical floor with mostly elderly people became my specialty because I enjoy talking and learning about a patient's life. When I worked in a department that did procedures and the patients were mostly sleeping under anesthesia, I found it boring. Others find that relaxing, monitoring a sleeping patient. Maybe you love paperwork, you could use your RN degree at an insurance company, or doing research. Don't worry try different positions, something will "click".

I always had a love for trauma/ICU nursing and was lucky enough to work in a level 1 trauma center for years. I saw and learned so much. It was and always will be my first love in nursing! The problem for me was it is a role for a young person. The years took a toll on my body and I had to move into another area but was able to stay in the ICU area but no longer at the bedside. I would advise you to look into all areas of nursing to help you determine what you want to do in your nursing career. The best advise I can give is to talk with nurses in all areas and ask what they enjoy about their job an what they would like to change. There are so many opportunities open to nurses now. You can also look about volunteering in some areas to be able to see firsthand what goes on in different areas you are interested in. I have worked in case management and currently work in nursing in the insurance field.
