Is going to a community college better than a university for an RN ?

Does community colleges cost less? Is it easier for you to get your degrees there than rather at an actual university ?

Hi Rashana,
Community College is less expensive than a 4 year degree. The Associate degree nurse and the Bachelor degree nurse sit for the exact same licensing exam.
Since the pandemic, and the nursing shortage, many hospitals are relaxing their BSN requirements and hiring more ADN nurses. I think now is the time to take advantage of this opportunity. Explore your local schools for their requirements to enter the nursing programs as soon as possible, as admissions are very competitive.
Once you've completed your ADN, pass your Boards to get your license, you can work for a hospital that offers tuition reimbursement to do an RN-BSN program in a more affordable way.
Hope this helps.

You can only get an associate (ADN) at community college. Other than nursing homes, most employers now require a BSN. If you get your ADN, there are some accelarated programs to continue to BSN. I did all my pre-recs at community college, then switched to University. Part of that choice was because all the community colleges in my area had a 1 year application process after you took your pre-recs. So it would've taken me 3-4yrs to get a 2yr degree, so I just went staright to BSN at a University. It obviously would also depend if you're looking at in-state or out-of-state schools & scholarships & financial aid.
