Is it difficult to "make-it" in rural medicine as a PA-C?

I am interested in becoming a women's health or family practice PA-C in a rural clinic. Was is difficult to find a job and was the community welcoming?

Depends on the area, but if you help people feel listened to and taken care of, then you'll be appreciated. Many places you may be the only thing they've got. You become "the doc". But the best way to know if you'd like it is to do it. Shadow in a rural clinic, do your PA school rotations in a rural clinic, do locum tenens work or get a job in a rural clinic. There's a lot of need and usually loan repayment involved but it's not for everyone.
