What are some career options, if I'm interested in helping people and animals?
I want a career where I can be able to help people and animals because I want to make a difference around the world; However, helping others is one of my favorite things to do in life. I will love to spend the rest of my life in a job where I can do what I love the most which is to help. I will also like for my job to involve physical activity and traveling to help others and see for myself the different opportunities I can have to change the world. #helpingothers-helpanimals-makeadifference-lawenforcement-army-psycologist-counselor-veterinarian-nursing-saveanimals-savetheworld-animalsaver-helpingpeople

This is a super question. Wow, there are some amazing careers that can help both people and animals.
It sounds like you have many talents and interests but the great news is that over the course of your career you will have at least 5 - 8 different jobs - so you can use all your talents. Also, I can tell you have a big heart and a passion for this work so you will be an excellent communicator and share your vision.
Some of the careers that will be available in the future haven't even been created yet. The best way to prepare for these careers is by studying science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Google STEM careers and you will see how many amazing careers there really are. A variation of this is STEAM, the A is for the Arts and could include careers like cultural anthropology where you study cultures, people, and animals.
So here are some possibilities to consider as you define the areas that are most interesting to you as well as the areas which you are passionate about. Think about each one and imagine some of the great contributions you can make to each field. Keep a journal with words and pictures to keep you motivated and to remind yourself of what is important to your journey:
Veterinarian - Large animal Small animal - in Illinois and the Midwest there is a rich history of large animal veterinary science. Be sure to attend the Illinois State Fair and county fairs. Learn as much as you can about your area and the animals within it. Farther away, there are zoos and natural parks that also need professionals to help animals and people. Consider volunteering for a veterinarian or fostering a service animal.
Research/wildlife biologist/ecologist - protect animals, protect rainforest, and native habitats that are on the decline. Groups like Nature Conservancy and Morton Arboretum, Shedd Aquarium, and other places near you protect habitats and help people improve the natural world. Try to visit some of these places and learn about this area of study. Volunteer with your friends and classmates at the Kankakee dog park or at the Kankakee river to help keep it clean or do research as a citizen scientist. You go girl!!!
Nonprofit/Nongovernment Organizations (NGOs) - World Wildlife Fund, Heifer International are two organizations that you can Google that raise awareness and advocate for endangered species as well as help people in the developing world raise cows, sheep, and chickens to improve their economies. Check them out, these organizations are literally changing the world every single day. Consider sponsoring/donating a flock of chickens at Christmas time instead of giving a traditional gift. You can also give honey bees or rabbits. Or get some friends together and raise money for a water buffalo or a camel to a village.
National Geographic - photographer, scientist, writer - I love National Geographic, go online or go to the library and explore the amazing world that National Geographic brings to life every month and has for over 129 years. You will learn so much by reading the articles and you will have the chance to find out about so many incredible places, people, cultures, scientists, writers, and photographers who capture the natural world. You can even become a member and write to the scientists or submit a photo. Most importantly, allow yourself to dream big about the way you will change the world for the better :) Go to www.nationalgeographic.org
I am very excited about your journey. Please keep us posted.

My second career ambition as a youngster was to train seeing-eye dogs. (My first was to be a microbiologist!) Nowadays, dogs are trained to help people in many different ways. They can detect seizures, etc.
Seeing your interest in law enforcement, they also have dogs- bomb dogs, narcotic detecting dogs, search and rescue dogs, etc.
There is a non-profit here near San Antonio, called SaddleLight, that works with children who have disabilities, doing horseback therapy, but I think that is mostly volunteer. There are also Wildlife Rescue groups, a group that rehabilitates birds of prey, outdoor learning classrooms (those are cool!)
The possibilities are endless! However, I think public sentiment is shifting away from circuses and the keeping of whales for entertainment purposes, and some even oppose zoos, so I don't know what the future holds for those positions.
Thank you in advance for whatever work you end up doing for us, I know it will make a great contribution to the planet!
