Hi Lamar, The way your question is posed, I see there are OTHER things besides school & sports that could be pulling your attention.
Understand your attention is your POWER. What various things you spend time & effort on is what defines & makes your life. When you look back on the last 3 to 6 months, have you spent your time on what is truly important FOR YOU? Your siblings, friends, parents & grandparents, anybody can tell you what they think is right for you but YOU are the master of your life & YOU choose how it should be spent.
Create a list of all the things that took your focus & attention the last 3 months. Put a "1" by the things that you want to keep paying attention to like eating right, getting sleep, basketball practice, study hall, tutors, etc. Put a "2" by the things that are next important and CROSS OUT what you need to stop doing, for instance, social media, TV, etc.
Keep maintaining this list on a daily, at night before you sleep, or weekly basis, like every Sunday before you start the week, & you will see how your focus starts to stay "sticky" to the right things & you start to ignore & not spend time on the things that distract you from what is important. Good luck.

Hello Lamar,
I understand your concerns. It is obviously a balancing act to balance both your interest in sports and in school. I think one of the most important things you should consider is what is more important to you? What are your chances of making it to Division 1? I'm not getting enough information to help you navigate through sports and school. If you focus on both, you might get distracted from the other pursuit unless you are managing your time well. One of the things I can recommend is that you plan out your time well and learn effective time management like what Rebecca above mentioned. Another thing I can recommend is you figure out what kind of grades and test scores some of those schools you are targeting require in receiving an athletic scholarship.
With the information you have put, this is all I have to offer.
Best of luck.
Best regards,
Johan

Hey Lamar,
Balancing school and sports can be challenging, but with the right strategies, you can excel in both areas. Here are some tips to help you focus more on school and sports:
Time management: Create a schedule that allocates specific times for studying, attending classes, practicing basketball, and resting. Stick to this schedule as much as possible to stay organized and ensure that you're dedicating enough time to each activity.
Prioritize tasks: Identify your most important tasks and prioritize them accordingly. Make sure to complete your schoolwork and assignments on time while also making time for basketball practice and games.
Set goals: Set clear and achievable goals for both academics and sports. Break down these goals into smaller, manageable tasks, and track your progress regularly. This will help you stay motivated and focused on your objectives.
Stay organized: Keep track of important deadlines, exams, and basketball events using a planner or digital calendar. Organizing your schedule and tasks will help you stay on top of your responsibilities and avoid last-minute stress.
Manage distractions: Minimize distractions during study sessions and basketball practice by finding a quiet, dedicated space to focus. Limit your use of electronic devices and social media during these times to maximize productivity.
Seek support: Don't hesitate to reach out to teachers, coaches, or mentors for support and guidance. They can offer valuable advice, resources, and assistance to help you succeed in both academics and sports.
Take care of yourself: Remember to prioritize your health and well-being. Get enough sleep, eat nutritious meals, and make time for relaxation and self-care activities. A healthy body and mind are essential for academic and athletic success.
By implementing these strategies and staying committed to your goals, you can effectively balance school and sports while striving to achieve your dreams of playing basketball at the Division 1 level. Keep working hard and stay focused on your priorities.
Good luck, Lamar!

Thank you for your question. I am glad to hear that you have the plan to play basketball well and target to enter an prestigious university. The most important is to have good time management. You need to find out a good time management first, eg Google Calendar, your phone calendar, ms outlook, etc
Below are my suggestions:
1. Put down the time you need to attend classes and basketball training schedule
2. Allocate some time every day on your assignment, projects, etc. Also, you need to ensure to review the class material covered in day time. If you have any questions, ask the teacher on next school day. Prepare for next school day well. You can take 5-10 min for every 1.5-2 hours
3. Make sure you have enough time to sleep
4. Before assessment / exam, you need to assign more time for revision
5. You can consider to form study groups with your classmates. It can help you to understand the exam materials
You don't need to fill up your schedule completely. You can keep some time to relax, leisure and friends & family gathering.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
