Can I live off of being an 2D animator?
If I could I would like to be a freelancing animator, is it possible to live off of being a freelancing animator, perhaps if I got an education? Are any of my future goals realistic?

In my opinion you can make a living out of anything if you know the “business” side of it. A quick online search will tell you that you can start freelancing online through several freelance websites, build a network, create a portfolio and email it to companies, start selling through your friends and family, do some passive income on the side, or simply get a good paying job in one of the big studios.
There are 2 sides of the story here:
1. Becoming an animator
I’m sure you’ve already went through that part. Harnessed the needed knowledge and worked on your skills. You’ll need to keep on doing that though, it’s part of the animator lifestyle :)
2. Making a living
That’s the business part. If you become a freelancer you’ll need to learn how to discipline yourself to work without someone standing above your head, manage your time, and deliver on time. But you’ll also need to learn how to price your work, how to negotiate, how to sell, and find who your clients are and they can be found.
One of the best readings I ever came across was the “Creative Artists Guild: Pricing and Ethical Guide” it taught me so much, and this is my bible nowadays. The rest of it comes through asking around, reach people in the industry and ask them for tips and guidance, that should help a lot.
At the end, this is as far as I know, I hope it was helpful. Best of luck.
