Hello Andrea,
Congratulations on deciding to start anew. Now that you are going back to school to complete your education degree, you might like to use one or more of the following:
1. Make many friends (people would love to interact with you)
2. Embrace technology and social media etc.
3. Take notes during classes, and discuss with classmates
4. Volunteer to engage in events and societies
5. Join various school clubs and committees
6. Maintain a daily routine, yet be open to trying new things sometimes (it'll help you expand your comfort zone)
7. Daily, visualize how you'll utilize this degree to boost your career.
Lastly, be yourself and accept others as they are!

Andrea, Congratulations for taking your first step! Knowing what you'll love to do keeps your motivation level up. Education is a fantastic field and there are so many options to chose what you want to do. There are also many ways to achieve an education degree such as online courses. If you need financial aid, it is available if you register for six credits and more. If you want to enter school slowly, you can take six credits (usually two courses) in your first semester. Believe in yourself, keep your focus on the end prize of becoming a teacher. It is a rewarding career when you find the right type of teaching that you will love. You are not alone, I was 47 when I went to college to be a teacher and you will find support from instructors and other students.

Going back to school is exciting and challenging. Good for you! Being open-minded, friendly, and organized will help you be successful in completing your degree. Be ready for lots of reading, note-taking, and writing assignments, all designed to help you get the job you'd like when you're ready. Try not to get locked-in on only one potential educational job---there are many options in both public and private institutions for kind and capable educators. Knowing yourself and your interests will help you find the best spot for your talents. Generally, individuals with previous life experience can bring something special to learning situations, and showing patience and a positive attitude that comes from that is a plus. I deal with this question every semester as a community college instructor.
- Getting back into school mode after ______ amount of years........standing in long lines, sitting in class for hour(s), meeting assignment deadlines, receiving good or not so good grades, etc.
- Technology, technology, technology! You must get literate---meaning, learning the systems and software that your particular institution uses.
- Forming relationships with the different constituents (staff, faculty, and students) at your institution. These are three different dynamics that are not always easy to navigate.
