I would start with a test that helps you figure out what kind of learner you are. There are visual learners, auditory learners, hands on, etc. as soon as you figure out the best way you learn you can tailor your study sessions. For example I can read until I’m blue in the face but I retain nothing by reading so I figured out that if I read outloud and record myself while reading notes and text books and then listen to it as I go to sleep or as I drive or just listen to it throughout the day I retain a lot more. I also figured out that if I have study groups where I have to explain a concept that I don’t necessarily know 100% about, the fact that I have to teach it to someone else solidifies it in my head. Studying is all about learning about yourself. Most people won’t study correctly for their learning type until the last semester of their last year. So get a head start!

Lorri’s Answer

Studying is a continuing way of life. We learn new things everyday. Studying is using the information we are learning in everyday situations. The ‘last day before a test’ cramming stays with us for only a short while.
For example, nursing students are learning dose measurements. Why not use some of our tools such as cylinders and eyedroppers as you add peppermint flavoring to a cookie recipe? In today’s tech world you’ll probably be measuring on electronic scales and with other tools but home use helps solidify concepts. Be passionate and have fun!
