Holli’s Answer

Hi Macee,

When choosing a profession, there are some questions to ask yourself:
- What am I passionate about?
- What schooling/classes do I need to take?
- What is the pay range for this profession?
- Is there room for professional growth?
- Will this profession support me in reaching my personal goals?

Hope this is helpful.

Discover what truly ignites your passion and brings you joy, then consult with your guidance counselor to find a path that fits these interests. My own journey was shaped by my love for learning and sports. However, an injury in my junior/senior year led me to the world of Sports Medicine and Athletic Training. This new path not only kept me close to sports and fitness, but also allowed me to minor in Education. So, no matter what happens, remember there's always a way to pursue your passions.

Hello there! First and foremost, let me reassure you: feeling uncertain about your future is a completely normal part of life :) There's absolutely nothing wrong with you for feeling this way! Plus, your interests may evolve over time, and even after you've found your passion or chosen profession, you might stumble upon new ones :)

For now, start by asking yourself: What activities bring you joy? What motivates you to keep going? Do you find happiness in socializing? What kind of movies do you enjoy and why? What tasks can you immerse yourself in for hours without losing focus? Reflect on the things you love and try to understand why you love them. Jotting this down can help you gain a clearer perspective on what you enjoy and excel at, which could guide you towards your path.

Just as crucial is to connect with your friends: What's their perception of you? What do they think you're good at (and don't forget, you can reciprocate by sharing your thoughts about them)?

Remember, you have all the time in the world, and by pondering over this question, you're already a step ahead :)

Thank you for your question. Many students have similar question. The most important is to find out what careers you have interest.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Think about what you have interest, e.g. your hobbies, favourite subjects, etc. and identify the related careers
E.g. If you like music, would you like to be a singer, musician, musical artist, music producer, music composer, etc.
If you have interest in maths, would you like to be an accountant, banker, engineer, financial analyst, maths teacher, etc.
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counsellor, your parents, etc.
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue
5. Explore the entry criteria of relevant subjects in the college
Also, bear in mind that you interest may change in your life time. You may change your career. This is very common.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Exploring potential careers ais an important step in planning your future. Here are some steps you can take to figure out what you want to do as a career:

Self-Assessment:
Identify your interests, values, skills, and passions. What activities do you enjoy? What subjects in school do you excel in? Reflect on what matters to you in a career.

Research Occupations:
Look into different careers to understand their responsibilities, required education, and potential salary. Use online resources, career websites, and speak to professionals in various fields.

Job Shadowing:
Arrange to shadow professionals in fields you find interesting. This hands-on experience can give you a real sense of the day-to-day tasks and environment of a particular job.

Internships and Volunteering:
Participate in internships or volunteer work related to your areas of interest. This provides practical experience and helps you build a network in the industry.

Talk to Career Counselors:
Seek guidance from your school's career counselors. They can provide valuable information, resources, and advice tailored to your interests and abilities.

Take Career Assessment Tests:
Consider taking career assessment tests or personality tests that can provide insights into suitable career paths based on your traits and preferences.

Explore College Majors:
Research different college majors that align with your interests. Many careers have specific educational requirements, so understanding the academic paths can be helpful.

Networking:
Attend career fairs, workshops, and networking events. Connect with professionals and ask them about their career paths. Networking can open doors to opportunities and insights.

Online Courses:
Take online courses or workshops in areas you find intriguing. This can help you gain a deeper understanding of specific fields and enhance your skills.

Stay Informed:
Stay updated on industry trends, advancements, and the job market. Being informed can help you make decisions based on current and future demands.

Set Goals:
Establish short-term and long-term goals. This can help you stay focused on your aspirations and make informed decisions about your education and career path.

Remember, it's normal for career interests to evolve over time. Stay open-minded, explore different options, and don't hesitate to seek guidance from mentors, teachers, and professionals.

Chakia’s Answer

Macee, please know that what you're feeling is completely normal, and most have experienced the same. I would suggest, taking the time to learn yourself and what brings you joy. Ask yourself, what are my interests? What brings me absolute joy that I'd love to do it for the rest of my life? Am I open to learning a new skill?

We've all been there. I hope this helps.
