What was the most beneficial experience you had before starting a graduate-level program?

I am applying for Summer research opportunities to prepare for graduate school. I was wondering if there were any other programs or opportunities that would help me prepare?

Michelle’s Answer

Hello, Anna !

Not knowing where you live or what exact subject will make it a bit difficult to refer you to specific opportunities, so for the other advisors, you may want to indicate your general location and your specific field of study for more precise advice. Despite limited information, I would be happy to advise, support and encourage you on this wonderful venture.

If you live in the United States, there is a list of research programs at the links I have provided below. Additional opportunities could be in obtaining employment in the healthcare field or volunteer work. Also, the website, Coursera, has some on line classes that you can take. I have provided the link for you below. You can also contact any large medical or allied health college and inquire as to what opportunities are available to apply to.

Doing a health care research program will give you an edge when applying to medical school or a Masters Degree program. At the link below is information about why this is a good experience for you and how to get started. If you are seeking this type of experience, I advise that you explore your local area for opportunities. Decide which program best targets your specific interest. If you have many interests, that's great. I know that you will find the program valuable and gain a lot of skill by being involved.

I hope this helped a bit and I wish you all the best with your summer program !

Godfrey’s Answer

That's a good inquiry
I had been volunteering in hospital and community activities that promote peaceful coexistence and anti gender based violence against girls and young women and health promotion.
This gave me a better glims of global health and it played an important role in modeling my passion towards a career in medical field

Madison’s Answer

Shadowing in the field I was interested in was incredibly beneficial. This allowed me to see hands on what the career I wanted would look like, gain knowledge in the field that would help me down the line and also help me gain access to a mentor in that field as well who I could turn to for advice down the road.
