The best way to receive financial aid is to do some online research for scholarships to apply to. There are so many scholarships out there and many people don't take advantage of these opportunities, which causes them to go to waste. Be diligent and prepare to apply to as many as you need. I would like to give you some advice about financial aid, however, for others who may want to advise, you might want to clarify your question pertaining to who would the "help" be for and if you are already on financial aid or planning to apply for it. Also your state and being a resident or non-resident will determine the types of help one can obtain. So I will provide advice in a general manner about how financial aid helps people.
When you apply for financial aid you can receive grants, work study and student loans. Your school and state can offer scholarships and some organizations and companies offer scholarships, too. Because you did not indicate your state and planned major, I can't advise on any particular scholarships that can help you out financially, so this would be something that you can explore first hand via searches on the internet. Scholarships are topical and based on a wide range of qualifications, so for the best advice, you need to ask detailed questions.
It is always good to get a part time job before entering college so you can save some money for college. Part of having help with the financial part of college is taking active steps to give yourself opportunities to fully plan for your future goal of attending college. If you are in an emergency situation you can always apply for public assistance, food stamps and Medicaid at your local Department of Social Services office (if you are in the United States).
