Will the computer science industry inevitably become oversaturated?
I am an amateur self-taught programmer in high school with interests in engineering. Given the recent boom in excellent jobs due to an expanding tech industry and the large number of people majoring in computer science to meet this demand, I often wonder if the field will become oversaturated with too many specialists. On the other hand, new companies and ideas are expanding just as quickly. Do you believe that the supply will always be greater than the demand? Will the sector be able to sustain this kind of growth?

If you step back and look at our society and all the “things” we use and rely on, you will be hard pressed to find one that does not need some kind of code to make it work. We live in a digital world and having strong programming skills and CS understanding will allow you to work in almost any field. I would expect to see the CS degree or just many of the courses become minimum required courses in the future. My suggestion is to find what you really care about and get a minor in CS and a major in your passion.

Far from over-saturation. To name a few outlets where the field of computer science has accelerated today (2018): (1) Connected consumer/industrial/automobile/space; (2) Games & smart-devices augmented reality & virtual reality; (3) Hospitality persona management & physical security; (4) bio/chem/pharma/agriculture/food/nano/robotics engineering; (5) UAV/UGV in the imaging industry for movie/military/security/inspection/real-estate (6) Virtually all organizations have adopted or are adopting computational data analytics.
