Daniel’s Answer

If by 'find' you mean successfully get apply and get a job at, probably you need to build up a reasonable resume, practice a lot of coding, and apply to a lot of places.

If by 'find' you just mean literally finding companies that employ interns - most software companies employ interns. So all the big name shops (Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Netflix, Twitter, etc), as well as all the smaller local companies as well. Job postings at University, career fairs, etc are all good ways to find them.

School job boards is one source. or go straight to the technology company websites and search in the Career or jobs section. Filter to specified Internship in the search field. Plenty of jobs for computing science!

Courtney’s Answer

I have worked for many internet and software companies and they all hire paid interns. I would first start by looking for posting on Linkedin, Glassdoor or Indeed. Also if you know of a local company check the company's career page, while many of these companies have relationships with certain colleges/high schools they also like to hire interns from the communities where they are located. If you want to be very proactive, reach out to the HR departments directly, you can usually find email addresses on the company's career pages or send them a message via LinkedIn. The top reason students end up without an internship is because they start looking too late, start early and check the above mentioned resources often. Have your resume & cover letter ready for submission when you start your search.

The two biggest ways I find companies are through my passions (the environment, software observability, embedded systems, whatever) and through the people I know. The former is easier when you're getting started. What do you feel is important to contribute to, to make better in the world? How do you think technology and software can help? Then search for those companies. The latter is harder, especially early on, but there are certainly social/professional networks. Linkedin being most obvious, but I've found more personal success finding groups in my area that have a shared interest. Whether that be programming a specific language, a book club, or even some recreational sports teams. I even found my current job by making friends with my favorite bartender and meeting her partner! There are a surprising number of places to form connections and almost every company has some software need at this point in time. Then you just have to filter down the list.
