Hi John,
Learning anything new can definitely be a challenge, you're not alone on this! I'll start by suggesting you make sure whatever it is you decide to learn, is something you're actually interesting in. What I mean by this is - don't do it because everyone else is doing it, or because you think is what needs to be done. It is okay to not be sure if you're fully interested at first, so always give it a try, and don't feel forced to stick to something you don't like. Now, this doesn't mean giving up immediately, so once you identify something that seems of your interest, look for effective ways to your learning. The ways of learning for everybody can look differently, so what may work for some may not work for others, and that is totally ok. Some ways that you can try is:
-Write down what worked well and what didn't. This will give you clarity on the things you have mastered, and those that may need a little bit more attention and time from you.
-Seek for advice from people that are doing something similar. It gets even easier if someone that has walked the same path can give you their piece of advice, tips and tricks. Don't be afraid to ask for help, and if you don't know anyone in particular, look for online groups you can join to ask your questions, for example Facebook groups, reddit, online vlogs.
-Don't get discourage if you don't succeed at the first try, remind yourself that it doesn't mean that you're not good, it just means that you are in an unfamiliar territory, and that is not only fine, but also very brave! Celebrate every little win, and remember that the more familiar it gets, the easier it will become but you have to keep practicing it.

Psychologist, Malcolm Gladwell, has stated that as we get older, our capacity for learning and focusing on activities begins to increase substantially.
This is why people, who seem hopeless in academic's and school, when they were young, suddenly become Deans List and Honors students, when they get older. Definitely keep at it, things will get better.

I suggest honing one ability at a time. Often, we overload ourselves by attempting to grasp numerous things simultaneously. Concentrate on mastering one skill until you're confident in your proficiency, then shift your focus to the next. Remember, acquiring a new skill doesn't mean you should cease practicing or pushing your limits. Continue refining that skill to maintain and enhance your proficiency.

Hello John. I agree, learning a new skill can be challenging. Anything that is worth learning is. My advice is to be patient and seek out advice from indidivuals that may have the skill you want to possess. Think about it, to takes us all a while to learn how to do basic things like walking, talking, writing, learning how to ride a bike. Learning any other skill is going to take just as much patience. Stick with it, find someone who may be able to serve as a guide, and take advantage of resources you may have available (i.e. coursera, school library, free courses). Take care and enjoy your journey.

Focus on what you are interested in, or what you believe that you are good at. Then, take a few free courses that offer more information in those areas. After you become more familiar, save and invest in a paid course to get a more focused training in the areas that you find interesting. You will do great!

Hello John
I would like for you to think about three questions I will as ask. My hope is that by tapping within yourself perspective, you will discover your answers to why you're having challenges learning new skills or seeking new hobbies. When I was a student & young professional, I had so many O's in my face; Options & Opinions regarding what I should or shouldn't do. Therefore, I needed to center myself and self reflect. I hope the following few questions will help you self level set. 1. What brings you joy? 2. What is it about you that would make you great in future role within school or your desired profession? 3. If time or money were not an issue, what would your future look like in one year?
