Great question, Evan! Although I do agree that it depends on your field, education is always worth it in terms of personal development, professional development, networking, etc. Graduate degrees are easier to earn now because of so many new and expanding options, e.g., online programs, hybrid programs, undergrad + graduate degree programs (usually 5 years in length), organizations covering your degree costs, scholarships available for advanced degrees, etc. Once you earn a degree, it can't be taken away - you have that knowledge to use (and build on) in so many aspects of your career and even your life. Even classes that you may think are unnecessary will be worth it at some point. I've never heard anyone say, "I regret earning a degree". Knowledge is power! Consume all that you can, be curious, ask questions. Never stop learning. Go for it!

Samantha’s Answer

My answer would be "It depends." It depends on what field you are in - if you're in a technical field like engineering or sciences, it does help you establish your credibility since they are usually pretty tough. However if you are in business, grad school (MBA) will be more beneficial when you are ready to move into a managerial role! Basically, when you're doing grad school and what you are studying will affect the importance of it to you and your career!

Serge V.’s Answer

Hi Evan,

This is a great question and I asked myself this question when I was deciding to go to graduate school. Graduate school will give you more options and this would impress employers. Education never can hurt so the more you get, the better you will be. I hope this helps you out.

Nhi’s Answer

It definitely depends on what you want to do. For example, if you wanted to become a lawyer, you would need to get an additional degree (master’s/doctorate’s in law).

Something to start asking yourself is what role you see yourself doing and working backward from there. If I want to be [insert role/career], what are the steps?

Hope that helps!
