Watch out! I love this question. Going into college is a huge transition especially if you're moving away from home, not seeing the friends you normally get support from, the classes are more difficult, parents aren't there to provide structure, etc. Give yourself time to adjust to the new routines. Keep an eye out for signs of depression/anxiety and get help if needed. Start with seeing your primary doctor if you don't have a mental health professional. Look into learning about self compassion and personal growth. Also watch out for opportunities to increase social connections.  People need people. Make friends of all ages. Invite people over for a study session/group is one way to make friends. Watch out for finding new interests and curiosities. Explore ideas and interests is good for the brain.  Watch for ways to make college fun by "joining in" (doing activities available in or near college).  It shouldn't all be study, projects, papers and presentations. Watch out for any potential risky behaviors: drinking, drugs, over spending, skipping classes, etc.   Also, put a ride share app on your phone as a back up plan. You never know when your driver/friend is going to be drunk, or when you'll be drunk, or your car is broken, etc.

Debbie Yoro recommends the following next steps:

Make friends
Learn, but not just in classes
Practice wise decision making and use parents and other older adults as your consultants.
Be kind to yourself and others.
Be mindful of your mental and behavioral health so that you can have better outcomes in college.
