Jordan’s Answer

Great question! It would depend on what classes are offered, but classes that would be useful to build your foundation are:
1. Accounting - you will often hear that accounting is the language of business. Understanding how to read financial statements and the basics of how companies track their financials is a great start.
2. Macro/Micro Economics - understanding how real world events shape business will help broaden your mind and how you view the business world. Being well rounded will also equip you to have meaningful conversations and offer valuable insights.
3. Statistics - numbers are crucial in the finance world. Understanding different mathematical concepts early on will help you grasp much more complex theories as you progress in your studies.

Grete’s Answer

Hello Ryan,

If your high school provides courses related to business like Accounting, Microeconomics, or Macroeconomics, I'd encourage you to consider enrolling in them. These subjects can give you a solid foundation in business concepts. Additionally, if your school offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses, it would be beneficial for you to take them. These are rigorous, college-level classes that could potentially earn you college credits. They can also pave the way for you to take more specialized business courses when you get to college.

I trust this guidance will be of assistance to you!

Hey Ryan, I would recommend statistics to better understand the forecasting process that typically takes place at all companies. Also, I would recommend taking any classes that further your computer skills, as much of your job in finance will be spent in Excel or other spreadsheet software

Myles’s Answer

Explore any early access college-level courses focusing in general/core accounting and finance, business calculus, corporate strategy, and entrepreneurship. Additionally, if your high school has a DECA program/store for which you could join, also highly recommend for early business management experience and exposure.
