Will I be able to take other fun classes in college that aren't related to my major?
I'm excited for college and for the new opportunity to learn! I'm just wondering, will I be able to take classes in a variety of topics that don't necessarily correspond to my major? Of course I'll take all the required classes, but will I be able to fit in others as well? I love learning about all sorts of topics such as astronomy, English, science, and psychology.

Great question. Naturally this will depend a bit on you major and what kind of university you attend (state, private, trade, etc.), but yes! You can absolutely take any kind of classes you want in college. Since you are paying for it, you'll have more control. For example, I went to college for graphic design, but where I went that concentration was a Bachelors of Fine Arts, so a lot of my electives were just other fine art classes that don't necessary apply to graphic design.
Some classes may not be able to be put toward your degree, so if you want to dive deep in a particular topic you may want to consider pursuing it as a minor. But if you have extra scholarship money or just really want to take a class for the sake of the topic, no one is going to tell you no.
Hope this helps!

Hi Sarah! I echo what Kelly said -- it will depend a bit on your major and what kind of university you attend (state, private, trade, etc.) -- but generally, yes! There will likely be broad requirements outside of the major you choose. For example, some universities require a specific number of credits in language, a specific number of credits in arts and literature; science, history and government, etc. In addition to the curriculum that may be a "required core", your major will have a specific curriculum. Additionally, some universities (depending on the major) will allow for additional electives that can be any liberal arts class, business class, etc. to build to the number of credits needed to graduate. You could use your electives to take classes in a range of fields that interest you, or you could focus your electives in one area and use them to add a minor to your degree.
