What are some skills in medicine to know before attending college?
I plan to attain a career in medicine. Will the professors at a college teach medical terms and the like from scratch, or will we have to do some studying beforehand? I have a basic grasp of root words/prefixes/suffixes so I know some medical terms, but is that good enough before college?

While in high school, taking courses in biology, chemistry, physics, and math will assist with preparing you to apply to college and medical school. Once accepted, the classes offered will aid in further expanding your medicine knowledge. Explore the various medical fields that interest you. Inquire with local clinics or hospitals about interviewing or shadowing DRs or depts. to gain knowledge about the field. Many times professionals in the medical field are willing to speak at a local high school or allow students to visit their facilities. Volunteer at a local hospital. This will provide a wealth of knowledge and experience you can add to your college application. Score well on SAT and ACT, this lets colleges know your passion for learning.

Concentrate on basic sciences (biology, chemistry, & physics) and math. Take as many AP or IB courses in high school. You have a lot of years of education in front of you and getting college credit in high school can save you time and money.
Also consider courses in computer science. Basic programming and spreadsheet use might help if you want to get some research experience before applying to medical school
