Great question Jasmine - first off, it is very important to stay positive and be confident in your abilities. Having self-doubt or low self -esteem does not do you any good - in fact it tends to make things worse. Ways you can have more confidence is to read/research about the overall experience. You want to familiarize yourself with topics that will be covered, venture out and meet people who have been down a similar path, etc so when it is time to go, you are one step ahead. Always be prepared because at the end of the day, with preparation, comes confidence. If you possess confidence and set your mind to something, anything can happen with hard work and dedication. Never give up! At times it can be very stressful and overwhelming but it is imperative to stay focused and take it one day at a time. Wishing you nothing but the best in your future endeavors!

The best way to survive nursing college is to realize you will be stretched outside your comfort zone, from beginning to end of your nursing journey. Do not let this stop you or discourage you. Instead, let it fuel your resolve to meet every obstacle head on. YOU can do it! It may feel tough, but the truth is that obstacles are challenging you to learn, to grow, and to expand your thinking more or in different ways than you have before. In the end, you will reap the rewards of all your work. You will be able to help many others recover from an illness, take medications, live healthier lives, and best of all, others will feel better because of your abilities and care. In addition, you will learn many important facts about the human body, newer medicine and health trends, inventions and technological advances that help provide safer, faster, and better health care. As a bonus, you will be able to understand medical jargon, and how to perform first aid and CPR in emergency situations. All these experiences, will help you feel accomplished, and good about yourself. Nurses are very valuable in communities all around the world, and as such, are in demand. This type of job security assures plenty of job opportunities. As you go on about your nursing education, look for and surround yourself with other nursing students that are motivated, and full of positive energy. Form part of a dynamic study group of nursing classmates to go over lessons and skills. Build a network of family, friends, instructors, and classmates that will help you stay focused, cheer you on, or let you vent when you need it. These are the people that will remind you of your strengths, and abilities. Choose wisely! Do not go at it alone, if you can help it. Finally, as you make your rounds into the different fields of nursing, seek for 1-3 roles that interest you most, and find mentors (other nurses) working that field, apply for internships or opportunities to shadow these nurses. This helps prepare you for a great start as a professional, and diminish overwhelming feelings you may experience upon starting your RN career. Best of luck! You have chosen an excellent path!
