Hello Chloe! It's wonderful to hear that you're interested in the world of interior design! It's a fascinating field that goes far beyond what you might see on TV shows or read on DIY websites. The interior designer's role is incredibly important because they have the opportunity to positively impact people's lives every day.
First and foremost, safety and welfare are at the forefront of everything we do. When designing spaces, whether it's a home, office, or public building, ensuring the safety and comfort of the occupants is our top priority. We consider factors like accessibility for people with disabilities, proper lighting to reduce eye strain, and selecting materials that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also durable and non-toxic.
Creating inspiring and inclusive spaces is another crucial aspect of interior design. We strive to design environments that uplift and empower people from all walks of life. Whether it's through color, layout, or furniture selection, we aim to create spaces where everyone feels welcome and valued.
But perhaps what's most exciting about being an interior designer is the creative process itself. It's about so much more than just picking out furniture and paint colors. We delve into psychology, sociology, architecture, and art to understand how people interact with their environments and how we can improve those interactions.
There's a whole world of knowledge to explore and master in this profession. From understanding design principles and spatial relationships to keeping up with the latest trends and technologies, being a professional designer requires continuous learning and growth. But trust me, it's incredibly rewarding to see your ideas come to life and to know that you're making a positive impact on the lives of others.
So, if you're passionate about creativity, problem-solving, and making a difference in people's lives, I encourage you to explore the dynamic and fulfilling world of interior design further. Who knows, one day you may be the one inspiring and encouraging others to follow your footsteps in this most exciting field! All the best, Davana

Hello, Chloe !
I would like to advise on some questions that you've asked about interior design. I think that the biggest role someone can have with those skills is as an Artistic Director for Television and Film. To me, that would be one of the highest besides being and interior designer residential and commercial for wealthy people or commercial for huge corporations. So I would say these would be the three roles that would be standouts.
Although I cannot say how many jobs there are in any field of work, you can get an initial idea about that by reading employment notices on Indeed and Linked In and other employment websites. That will give you an idea of the type and frequency of jobs there are. But if it's just that you want job descriptions of different realms, than you can consider being a Blogger, Interior Design Assistant, Interior Decorator, Kitchen and Bath Designer, Technical Designer, Industrial Designer, Project Manager, Senior Interior Designer, Executive Director or an Architect.
Your job duties will vary greatly depending on what type of interior design you want to pursue. You will need great written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of the industry that you'll work in, lots of creativity and some positions require certifications or joining a union. This will all become clear to you once you are in college majoring in interior design. Most people go for a Bachelors Degree for this career.
What you can do now to prepare and gain inspiration and insight is read various interior design magazines to get a feel for the work. I would also suggest that you begin to decorate and or design rooms now and even if you don't get paid for doing so, it is still a project and can go on a resume and photos taken for your portfolio. You will learn about all of this as you move along and progress at each step.
I have left some links for you below that I think may be helpful for you and it's okay if you haven't decided what type of design you want to go into, this is your time to explore. An academic path towards this goal will also surely help you decide.
I hope this was helpful and I wish you all the best !

Hi Chloe!
The most important role of an interior designer is "our ability to read people."
Let me explain: when a person seeks advice, what that person is actually looking for is approval. That person has already made a decision and just needs to validate that decision.
When we meet with a potential client, we must pay close attention to what this person really wants and needs to do with their space. In 90% of meetings what the client says turns out to be completely different from what the client really wants. And this is where the most important work of the interior designer begins. Everything else is learned in a classroom or at a design convention.
Talent is polished with experience, software is learned with practice, reading our clients is an art that we learn to develop.
May the force be with you!

Problem solving, from converting a single lit lamp into a three way to finding the perfect stone for a fireplace design during covit. We are there to realize the dream space in the clients head and make it look seamless, which it isn't. There are a lot of moving parts in a successful design. First thing get to know your resources well and investigate any and all new products. Paint, furniture and even the latest and up and coming finishing on metal for example, chrome vs. polished nickel? You should confidently know the correct answers. Remember most of all your ears are you best asset, listen to your clients and you will never fail.
