Business and Hospitality career path?

I want to be a restaurant manager after graduating from college. Will a Business Administration major with an emphasis in Hospitality management qualify me for this? I am taking accounting classes, economics, business finance, etc related courses. What other career options are there for this degree? #business #business-management #hospitality

Richard’s Answer

Yes, but as in most professions; it will also depend on what level of experience you have. If you have none that is in relation to the path you are considering, I would recommend get a part time position doing so during your studies. Some hospitality organizations/professions will offer "Management Trainee" positions, where limited experience, and a great education may still qualify you, but a good foundation of application of this knowledge would be recommended. Other options: Hotel Management, Country Club Management, Senior Living Food and Beverage...I got my start as a civilian working on military bases, which places a high value on education as well.

Oscar’s Answer

Hi Chole!

I am happy that can find your question and answer this, restaurant manager is belong to F&B industry, so hospitality college is suitable for this job and industry path,

In this industry, first thing to learn and also the most important thing is profit management, a dish cost and profit, how much margin could I earn in this table and also count in the turning rate, restaurant is a place that very busy and high level hospitality work, but very funny during the challenging.

Hospitality and business you can also considering the hotel industry, every industry included business so doesn't matter, nut hotel industry must included F&B and the other jobs, it is a very big industry, also shopping is belong to hospitality industry.

So think the passion point of yourself, do work which you love it, and enjoy the industry.

Thank you and I hope this is helpful.

Michael’s Answer

I agree with both Oscar and Richard completely. And just to add my two cents to piggy back on their answers, gaining some real world experience at many different types and styles of restaurants is also extremely important. Gaining experience as a server/bartender/etc will help you understand the people you are trying to manage in the future.

Good luck and best wishes!
