What is the general yearly salary of a physical therapist?
I want to become a physical therapist and I am wondering how much money a physical therapist makes yearly. I hope that I can pursue this profession.

Hi Lela,
The typical salary of a PT varies a lot depending on where you live. For example, PTs in California will make about twice as much as PTs in some parts of the south but the cost of living in CA is much more expensive than the south.
The average salary of a PT according to the US News and World Report is $97k. However, this is the average of all PT salaries for people who answered when asked. This includes very experienced PTs who might make more and very new PTs who make far less. PTs in my area of Florida make around $70k starting.
Hope that is helpful!

I work in pediatric PT and even within that sub-speciality, there is a yearly range as therapists can work in home health, Early Intervention, schools, outpatient clinic, NICU, acute-care hospital, or do something even more niche like pediatric pelvic health, orthotics, or seating/mobility equipment work. Salary offers vary by location as well due to cost of living and high/low demand. $80,000-$85,000 is about average for pediatrics across all settings and levels of experience, I would guess. $110,000 on the high end. That is not including if you pick-up weekend shifts. Or you work hourly and cover a few roles, like 5 days in a school and a few evenings each week in an outpatient clinic. Many of us pick up per diem work on the weekends in acute care, or do a bit of adjunct teaching as well.

Hello,
Salary is one consideration when choosing a career. Here is a link with information from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics that has lots of salary information. The numbers given are from 2022 and many of the numbers are averages, so they include people with various years of experience.
