Why are students pushed to enroll in 4-year colleges right out of high school?

Is it simply a recommendation or is there another underlying reason, as opposed to applying to a community college? #college-selection

Thank you comment icon A lot of people go straight to 4 year because many people who start with community college first don't end up finishing because they get bogged down with life (not saying community college is a bad thing). Others go straight to 4 year because they want that full college experience or because it's an issue of pride and a 4 year is always hyped up as better. Honestly, if you can afford it and you think you're ready for that type of atmosphere then you should go for the 4 year but if not, there's nothing wrong with doing a 2 year first and then transferring. I did not consider attending a community college before starting my degree. Looking back, there are several reasons that I am glad I started as a Freshman at my alma mater.

I participated in my school's Co-op program and began interviewing for jobs as a Freshman. Having Co-op experience on my resume helped me get my first job after graduation. If you are interested in a program like Co-oping, you should research if there are any limitations for transfer students.

It is also important to understand if the credits from the community college you are considering will transfer to the 4 year school you plan to attend. It would be ideal to attend a community college that has shown success with students transferring to your 4 year school.

Living in a dorm as a Freshman at my 4 year school made it easier for me to make friends and learn my way around campus.
