Hi Kennedy -

Below are a few suggestions I have used to standout in interviews:
1. Dress for the position or more. I always find dressing more professionally make me feel confident. I also tend to wear a bright colored blazer or shirt as it helps me to stand out visually.
2. Use the STAR method (https://capd.mit.edu/resources/the-star-method-for-behavioral-interviews/) when answering questions to ensure you stay on topic, actually answer the question, and are concise.
3. Look up possible interview questions and have an understanding of how you would answer them. Don't memorize answers, but make sure you have a clear idea what you want to portray in the answer and can get there.
4. Be sure you can clearly explain your journey and your goals.
5. Remember: It is a two way interview. You are interviewing them just as much as they are interviewing you to ensure this is the job you want and where you want to be.

All in all, dress your best so you feel confident, focus on showcasing your value, your talents, your interests, your passions, professionally. Good luck with your interviews!

Having some background on the school and programs you are interviewing with can be extremely helpful. Do some research (google is helpful) to learn about the programs recent achievements-usually on the school website-you’ll see things like “NP Alum earns research grant for…”. This can show your knowledge of the program and interest in the successes.
Be professional, speak clearly , pace yourself and your speech, avoid slang, but also be true to yourself and don’t be afraid to show your personality.
Express your passion for patient care and desire to further your education to provide the best possible care through evidence based practice as an NP.
Highlight your achievements, be prepared to provide examples of situations where you used your clinical judgment and critical thinking skills to help a patient or provide a solution to a problem.
Dress professionally, stand up straight, offer your hand to shake the hand of the interviewer, sit up straight and be attentive, silence your phone and put it away, try to avoid fidgeting-try folding your hands on your lap and avoid shaking legs or tapping your feet.
Don’t forget to breathe!!!
Be confident….you’ve got this!!
Good luck!!
