M. A. Rafe’s Answer
If you are there to ask questions and learn, then be prepared as much as you can before you go in. The best thing you can do is to show you are trying and motivated or interested about the topics in course. Typically professors would welcome that and work with you. However, some professors may not be very helpful or forthcoming. If it happens that you and your professor click and get along well, then that's great especially when it comes to recommendations in the future for jobs or graduate school. Another thing professors like is when you participate in class when he/she asks a question or encourages discussion.

When it comes to getting to know professors and allowing professors to get to know you office hours are critical. When going to office hours it is important to go in with a purpose. Are you there to ask a question about class material? Are you there to seek help with a research paper? Are you there to talk with them about research they are conducting? Or are you there to introduce your self and seek career advice from them? Whatever it may be make sure you have a plan before you go in so you know what you want to talk about. Next, if you really want your professors to remember you then go to office hours as often as possible. This will help the professor remember your face and your name. This can be really useful if you need to get a letter of recommendation from them in the future.
