Hi,

One thing that is hard to realise is that in the moment it may feel tough, but it can be really hard to change attitude and approach when it "really" matters. If you approach a challenge with a positive, hard working attitude you'll be amazed at how it can pay benefits down the road. You'll eventually realise too that others recognising in you a positive approach can give a great impression of you for potential recruiters, colleagues, and managers.

But really importantly - do not get too hung up on the importance. It's just as important to be happy, and coping with and mitigating stress is a vital part of any career. So next time you feel pressure and potentially overwhelmed take a step back, do something you enjoy, then reengage with a refreshed approach!

Hey McKenna,

I totally get what you're feeling. I've been in your shoes, and it can make you wonder, why even try? But let me tell you something. Even though colleges or universities won't peek at your middle school report cards, it's crucial to develop good study habits early on.

You see, I was a bit of a bookworm in middle school and even joined the student government. This made stepping into high school a breeze. Once there, I got involved in sports, drama club, dance, and a girls group. All these experiences were invaluable when it came to college applications. They not only made my application stand out but also helped me secure scholarships and grants. More importantly, they helped me establish solid study habits, which eventually led me to earn my degree.

So, even if it doesn't feel like it now, you're paving your own path to success. By understanding the importance of discipline and work ethic, you're laying the foundation for your future. It's a journey, I know, but stick with it. It'll be worth it in the end.

And hey, don't forget to have fun! I know it sounds contradictory, but don't stress too much over your grades. You're young with your whole life ahead of you. So, enjoy the company of your friends and cherish the experiences you gather along the way. Keep smiling :D

Hello McKenna,

I hope this message finds you well. I don't mean to echo what's already been said, but I can't stress enough the importance of the points made by others. In addition, I'd like to highlight that many universities, especially those abroad, place a significant emphasis on good grades during their admission process. These institutions view your academic performance as a measure of your potential and capabilities. Having good grades can significantly boost your chances of acceptance. Moreover, numerous scholarship and financial aid programs have academic achievement or GPA requirements. Thus, good grades can unlock opportunities for financial support, making higher education more accessible.

During my tenure as a recruiter, particularly when hiring recent graduates or junior employees, I often considered academic performance as a key factor. Your grades reflect your ability to work diligently, meet deadlines, and accomplish set goals. They can also pave the way for internships and other enriching work experiences that can enhance your resume. The pursuit of good grades can help you hone essential skills such as time management, discipline, and critical thinking. These skills are not only crucial in academics but also play a significant role in various life situations.

To sum up, securing good grades during your middle school years can have a profound impact on your future opportunities, both in academia and in your professional life. It's a testament to your hard work, dedication, and commitment to learning. Trust me, the journey of learning never ends!

Best wishes,
Abi

The comments above are all correct.
If you work hard, you will find success and you have to remember that it might not matter in middle school, but what you do now, sets you up for the future
Always remember that whatever work you turn in reflects on you - whats important to you - how you want others to see you - hard work is always a wonderful attribute which will set you up for longer term success
Keep working hard; no one can ever take that skill away from you and you should be proud of it

Karin’s Answer

Hi McKenna,

Establishing good work habits is important.

But also, every year of school builds on previous years. You need to develop skills every year to move forward. You wouldn't expect to pass Math5 if you don't have a good understanding of Math1. If you fall too far behind and don't build the foundations, it will be very difficult to catch up. The goal should not be to pass a class and forget everything about it after the last test, but to build skills that you need later.

Last but not least, you should be proud of what you accomplished. You should want to do as well as you possibly can. That will also give you confidence that you are very smart and can handle whatever they throw at you.

Good luck!
