To begin with, the term 'Finance' can be associated with a myriad of concepts. These may include commercial banking, such as a loan officer's role, investment banking, corporate finance, accounting, auditing, FP&A, personal investment advising, among others. Therefore, your specific area of interest within finance can influence the path you take. However, there are some universally beneficial steps to consider:
1) Acquire a broad understanding of financial concepts and skills. This can be achieved by enrolling in finance courses covering a range of topics like personal finance, stock markets, capital markets, accounting, investing, and so on.
2) Seek connections with people who have walked a similar career path. Many educational institutions, including high schools and colleges, offer programs that allow you to connect with alumni who have pursued careers that align with your interests.
3) Cultivate a solid comprehension of general business principles. This knowledge will serve you well in the long run.
4) Establish a robust professional network.
Hopefully, these suggestions will provide a good starting point for your journey into the world of finance.

Do well in college. College will give you an idea on what it is like and what is expected of you.
Ethics is also a big part of this. You must be ethical in this business.
If you have a passion for numbers, this is the place for you. Get involved into the profession through temping. Temping can give you an idea on what it is like and give you experience.

Hi Brodi, firstly I would like to clarify that being responsible is not something which is relevant only for the Finance career, but overall in every aspect. Therefore my advice would be stay curious, try as much as you can, no matter that sometimes you would feel tired, but you would have a bigger satisfaction feeling after the success of learning new things. Be open minded and work towards keeping a growth mindset and not a fixed one.
Work as much as you can, in order to stay current and try to be on the driver's seat of your career and on a passenger's one.
Always learn new things via leading certification programs in the Finance industry area, depending on your interests, skillset and experience. This would differentiate you as well from the others.
And last but not least - try to find time for a good rest, time with friends and family, as otherwise all this would not make any sense.
Cheers and enjoy life,
Dimi

Hello Brodi,
That's an excellent question! In the vast universe of finance, certain cornerstones are always required, no matter which specific field you're drawn towards:
1) Organization - This is the golden key to success in any profession, but it shines particularly bright in finance. Being organized is not just about your physical workspace, it also extends to your thoughts and actions. Even the simplest steps like labeling your work, jotting down comments, and keeping a record of feedback can make a huge difference.
2) Accountability - Embrace accountability. For instance, if you've set a monthly spending budget of $100, it's crucial to adhere to it. This demands a high level of self-discipline.
3) Resourcefulness - Always be on the lookout for resources that can assist you in reaching your goals. Remember, the journey of learning never ends. So, keep exploring, keep growing!
