Does showing my happiness help with being an anesthesiologist?

I am a 14 year old girl wanting to become an anesthesiologist. I love talking to people and being social. Making people happy is something I love doing, so I was wondering if showing my positive attitude helps me be an anesthesiologist.

Thank you comment icon Hi Shyla, can you please clarify this question? Are you asking how you can use your extraversion/positive attitude as an anesthesiologist? Gurpreet Lally, Admin

Madyson’s Answer

Hello Shayla,

Having a happy personality is always useful in the medical field. There are many medical professionals that rely on colleagues that radiate happiness and positivity.
As an anesthesiologist there are many high stress situations you could be in. If you maintain a happy attitude it will help you be the best medical professional you can be. Additionally it will help other medical professionals that will be working closely with you.
I work closely with many anesthesiologists and have noticed that the happier, more positive ones make their patients feel more comfortable and help their fellow medical team members enjoy coming to work.
Additionally, I would suggest looking into other specialties that would allow you to talk more with your patients (if that is something you want as a physician). As an anesthesiologist you interact with your patient for a very short amount of time before you put them to sleep for surgery. But in that short amount of time you are still able to make a positive impact on your patients.
Good luck in your future endeavors!
