If there is a way to take any of your classes online, that would definitely be a way to go to cut down drive time. I am not sure of your drive time for Work, but if it is not close to school, it may also be good to find a job closer to school and that will work with your college schedule.

Hey Janet,

That's an excellent question! I have a 35 mile commute daily, so I can definitely relate. In my experience, the best ways for me to study often depend on the class. If in an English class where I have to do a lot of course reading, I would look online for audio versions of the text and listen to them on my commute. If mass transit is available in your area, you can also get a lot of homework and studying done while riding the train.

Another thing that helped me tremendously, was to find a more portable solution than carrying several heavy textbooks in a backpack. I was able to locate a cost effective tablet that the University I attended provided an application for, and access all of my books online. That way, on breaks and lunches at work, I could easily take out my tablet and read, work through homework, or start to draft papers. There are a lot of benefits to memory and retention when breaking up studying into small 15-20 minute chunks at a time. Breaks and lunches are great for that.

The last tip that helped me tremendously, is to block out time (among the few unscheduled hours that you have) to refresh your body and mind. I can't emphasize enough how much clarity sleep and exercise can bring to a mind that is overloaded with work and school. Good luck in your endeavors! I know that you can accomplish great things!

Been here too! Some of your books might come in audio version. Being able to listen to your reading (almost like a podcast) can be beneficial.

I went to San Francisco State and would often hide @ Ocean Beach to read and catch up on school. If you have a bus or train option, that might allow you to get some of your work done as well.

It can be too much at times, but ultimately this will end up being just a small chapter in your life, you've got this!
