Fashion business majors often pursue careers in various sectors of the fashion industry, including fashion marketing, merchandising, brand management, retail management, and public relations. They may work as fashion marketers, brand managers, retail buyers, product developers, or public relations specialists. These roles involve tasks such as market research, trend analysis, advertising, event planning, and managing brand image. Fashion business graduates can find opportunities in fashion companies, retail organizations, marketing agencies, and media outlets.

Hello, Wendy !

If you go into fashion merchandising or marketing, that is the position you would apply for. Within that position, you would be doing a lot of sales, advertising and networking within the industry.

Some of the activity you would be involved in as a Fashion Merchandiser would be to strategically promote products, examine trends, come up with marketing campaigns that will increase sales and increase awareness of the product, choose collections, be in charge of budget, inventory, staff and store/office management and keep up with the latest developments. You could go into fashion merchandizing by going to fashion school for it.

There are very many careers in the fashion world, but each type of career is focused and you would need to show expertise and experience for the different types of fashion positions. My advice is to focus on fashion merchandising if that's what you want, or explore the other careers in fashion and choose one. I say this because say for instance you want to become a fashion designer. It takes a long time to build up the necessary things to start your career. It would be the same if you went into being a retail Buyer or any of the design related aspects of fashion. You can consider Visual Merchandising, too, which is designing shop windows. Fashion Merchandiser is an actual job title, so it's one position with a variety of responsibilities.

Definitely explore it all and see what you like best for a future career. Consider going to fashion school for the best foundation and opportunities.
Best wishes with you future goals !
