Linus’s Answer

Hi Berty. It's important to determine what success means to you. Is your success determined by the size of your salary? Does positively impacting your community make you successful? Is doing meaningful work while maintaining a work/life balance the definition of success? Also note, you don't have to choose only one. You get to decide what makes you successful. Find a career that involves something that you're passionate about success will follow.

Hello Berty. I think your questions is almost on everybody's mind now including me. It's not easy to know what you want to do with your life and how you can make an impact. My advice to you is to check this online course on Coursera which is called " The science of success"

https://www.coursera.org/learn/success/home/info

as it will give you an idea about what makes people successful and what do successful people do and have. It will also allow you to write your own action plan at the end in order to have concrete steps to help you advance forward in life. Enjoy it and get the most benefit out of it :) :) ;)

Simeon’s Answer

The basics of being successful are making sure you have hirable skills and a network of friends.

For hirable skills, if you have clear passions with a connected career path, by all means go for it! If you don't, I'd recommend going to the department of labor's website and seeing what are quickly growing careers. You don't have to do one of those, but it's a great starting point if you are drawing a blank. If you don't like any of them, then that will at least give you a starting point by clarifying which careers don't interest you. Try to nail down why you like some and not others and see what careers line up with your preferences.

Networking is much simpler than it sounds. Find people in your same stage of life and reach out! Find people with passions in common with you that you naturally have fun with. Making quality friendships is one of the best experiences in life and is a reward unto itself, but it is also the most likely way you will get a job once you graduate. Friends tend to look out for one another. If they're invested in you living a happy and successful life, they will look for opportunities for you to achieve your goals.
