With over 40 years of experience as an Executive Assistant, I can't stress enough the importance of discussing work flexibility during your initial interactions with the recruiter or HR representative. It's always beneficial to clarify this early on in the interview process. Once you've secured a position, maintain open communication with your team and HR. If unexpected situations arise requiring you to adjust your work hours, don't hesitate to let them know. Remember, it's all about achieving a work-life balance that suits you best!

Depending on the company and your manager, there may be an opportunity for you to have flexible working hours. However, it's important to note that most Assistant/Executive Assistant roles necessitate that you operate within the same timezone and basic hours as your manager and team. This is so you can promptly address any questions related to scheduling, rescheduling, or canceling meetings. Always maintain transparency about your availability. If there are instances when you're not available, make sure to communicate this and provide information on when you will be accessible.

As an administrative assistant, your role is to provide support and assistance to an Executive or higher-level management to ensure the smooth operation of the organization. The specifics of your job can vary greatly depending on the type of organization you work for.
For instance, in my role at a multinational corporation, the administrative assistants I interact with are often extremely busy. They're tasked with supporting hundreds, if not thousands, of people spread across different time zones, which makes for a hectic schedule.
On the other hand, working as an administrative assistant for a domestic corporation or a smaller business can offer a more balanced schedule. The workload is typically less intense, allowing for a more manageable routine.

It depends on the organization but I would say many roles in administrative services tend to be flexible but some are dependent on the staff you are supporting. If you need flexibility I would suggest discussing this in the initial interview and seeing how they are able to accommodate you.
