Peter’s Answer
As others have noted, your experience will depend on the organization you work for and the people you support. If your role involves teaming with other admins in your area, build relationships with your team and don't be afraid to lean on them as you learn the job. Be warm, friendly, and genuine with those your support. Building a strong rapport with those you support will make the job more satisfying and will ensure you're best positioned to offer the very best support them.

I think admin assistant roles are very dependant on the organization and the individual(s) you're supporting. I think the good thing is you can really build the skills on the job and then use those skills to find a place that does recognize hard work and value this type of role.

Filip’s Answer
Each employer is different and they will have various ways of recognizing their staff. I will say hard work is not always automatically recognized by your superiors so it is important to track your achievements and share them so that they don't get overlooked.
As for the tools needed, it also varies by employer but if there is something you think you will need to do your job more efficiently I believe having an open dialogue with your boss and expressing it will help put it on their radar for the future. Speak up and provide feedback so that when they plan improvements in the future they may consider your suggestion.
