First you need to understand what will your Long term goal is to be. Would you want to be an <span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34);">entrepreneur or aspire a high level career in the specified field. In case if your interest is to become and entrepreneur, You may need a Diploma from a trade school and may not need a full time degree. However, if your aspiration is to start a job and achieve highest level of success, You need to work hard towards getting yourself getting admitted in institutes like </span>Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of California, Berkeley (UCB) or Stanford University.

I agree with the other answer. It is very important to figure out what your goals are. Also, one thing you could do is to find job descriptions for a Civil Engineer and see what the skill requirements are as well as the degree requirement is. Sometimes there is an in lieu of allowance which means you could substitute 8 or 10 yrs of experience for a degree. I think a college education is pretty important, but there are ways to make it more financially manageable, like go to a community college for the first two years and take a few classes if possible over the summer or winter breaks, as well as, to look for grants and scholarships. You can also look in LinkedIn and see the backgrounds of folks with a Civil Engineering background.
