Here are a few steps you can follow in getting a great job after graduation (you do not have to wait till you graduate though, you should start the process well before graduation):
1. Resume: Prepare a good resume that highlights your education, any jobs/internships you have held, any relevant projects or extra-curricular activities that may add to your achievements. Have your resume reviewed by guidance counsellors at your college/university or friends and family who may have experience in writing resumes.
2. Finding opportunities: There are so many ways to find opportunities. Two I would like to mention are job search websites, and websites of individual companies. Below is a list of a few job search websites:
- indeed.com
- monstor.com
- careerbuilder.com
- ziprecruiter.com
- glassdoor.com
- linkedin.com
The above are a few of the well known ones. But you can find a few more by performing a web search.
As for websites of individual companies: if you visit the website of pretty much any company, you will find a careers or jobs section where you can search for suitable job openings.
3. Find a list of suitable job opportunities and apply to all of them. To increase your chance of being called for an interview you must apply for many opportunities.
4. Prepare for job interviews. You may find resources at your college/university to prepare for job interviews. There are a lot of resources online too.
Plan, prepare and execute. Good Luck!

Andrea’s Answer

I would begin before I graduate. Try doing an internship in your desired field. I did a program where I worked for a semester then went to school for a semester. By the time I graduated I had my degree, relevant work experience, and several job offers.

Hi Luchia Z. I see that you posted this question a little while ago so I hope my answer to you (or others who may read this response) is still helpful.

To add to the awesome answers already provided, keep in mind that there are many colleges/universities that invite companies/government agencies and/or small and medium-sized businesses onto campus as part of internal career fairs. As you reach out to your guidance counselors, they likely will have information about these types of career fairs...the types where prospective employers will be on campus, seeking to hire students who are about to graduate.

Hope you find this answer helpful. Best of luck to you!

Gary’s Answer

Luchia - Relationships you have with friends, family, students and professors can play a very big role in finding jobs. In college there will be plenty of resources to help you with finding a job. You can meet with a guidance counselor who can give you some guidance, there is typically a career and placement center to assist you with finding a job and how to apply. You can also speak with your professors and/or the department head to get some guidance. There are usually job fairs that take place on the campus and many off campus as well. You might also consider doing an internship while in college to see if that is a field you will enjoy. Hope this helps you!
