What might I need to study in order to have a career to try to help end human trafficking?
Hello! I am a high school senior and I am very interested in combating human trafficking, particularly in third world countries, but I do not know what I would need to major in. Does anyone have some type of insight? #career #majors #human-trafficking

Human trafficking happens everywhere and is a growing epidemic. I works as a probation officer and we have both victims and perpetrators of human trafficking come through our office. In my arena we deal with mostly pimps who are using juvenile females in sex trafficking. Classes in criminal justice and international law may provide you with insight on areas where you would like to focus. The U.S. Marshal Service is the law enforcement agency in the United States that targets sexual offenses, including human trafficking in the United States and they work with international law enforcement to combat the problem at that level. Take a look at the U.S. Department of Justice website smart.gov and also the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (missingkids.com) to get additional information. Both those organizations work domestic and international human trafficking.

Hi,

I found this link for you with some good information...there are many ways to help fight trafficking, you can work for the Customs Dept/Homeland Security, as a Lawyer/Attorney, Social Worker, Government Worker, a Volunteer and more. I would suggest reading more and doing research to decide HOW you want to help fight trafficking --- working directly with people affected by trafficking, arresting people that do trafficking, setting up programs to help stop trafficking, etc.
Good luck!
