Is it better to get your prerequisites done over the summer at a community college?

I am planning on taking pre-reqs this summer to get started on my degree, is it worth it, or does it leave me out of sync with everyone else? #plan4college #college #college-advice

Doing pre-recs at a community college is sometimes a very good idea. It can be an opportunity to cut down on expenses as well as potentially get a higher grade than you would have at a competitive university.

That is an excellent idea. Keeping your expenses by living with your parents and paying lower community college admission can save significant money in the long run. Also you can focus on grades instead of having to adjust to your new surroundings. Too many changes at once can be overwhelming.

Jacob’s Answer

Hi, Ben,

I do not think there is any negative impact to the remainder of your college career if you take some prerequisite courses over the summer. Do your research and ensure that those classes will count for credit at whatever school you will attend full-time, though. Completing prerequisites builds flexibility during the rest of your college tenure and provides you with options. It allows you to take more interesting elective classes, get into important classes in your major early, and potentially graduate in less than four years. You also can add a major or minor much more easily if you are not bogged down by prerequisite coursework.

If you have the ability to do so, I think it's a great idea.

I hope this helps. Don't hesitate to reach out!
