What kind do employers look for in students that are fresh out of college?

Next fall I am going to college and I want to know what types of activities or goals that I should pursue to make my self a better candidate when I graduate and start looking for a job in my field. I know that I should obviously do well academically and get some work experience, but I want to know if there is anything else I could do to make my resume more appealing to employers. I plan on going into biomedical engineering.#How-do-I-get-hired-straight-out-of-school #college #employment #biomedical-engineering #resume

Bright, energetic, eager to learn... I think you get the point. When you do land a job, make sure you’re punctual, dressed presentable per the Firm’s dress code standards. Most importantly, make sure to relax and enjoy your working experience.

You've pretty much got it - grades and work experience are the two primary factors that will help you get a job. Ideally, that work experience will be in biomedical engineering, but it doesn't matter whether it's a paid job, a paid internship, an unpaid internship, or a volunteer position. Or if it's in a related field, you may find that some of your experience transfers over. But if you can't get work experience in/adjacent to your field, other work experience can still be useful to show employers that you are reliable and hardworking!
You may also want to choose an extracurricular or two, either one related to engineering to demonstrate your passion for it or an unrelated one to show that you are well-rounded. Make that decision based on what you like, not what you think employers will like.
