Zitlali,
Radiologists are often called the "doctor's doctor". We participate in the care of patients referred from our fellow physicians. These may be family doctors, pediatricians, ob-gyn doctors, internal medicine specialists, all the surgical specialists and emergency room physicians. In our work ,we
interpret examinations performed using X-rays, ultrasound, CT, MRI and nuclear medicine. In addition, we perform procedures on patients such as biopsies, opening blocked blood vessels, draining collections in the body.
These radiologists are called diagnostic/interventional radiologists. In addition, there are other
radiologists called radiation oncologists who use radioactive sources to treat cancer patients.
We are all medical doctors who have graduated from medical school and then receive four-five years additional training in our speciality. We are assisted in our work by a team of radiologic technologists who have received three- four years post high school education.
Our contribution to each patient is to discover the cause of their illness, the extent of their injury and provide a means to follow the response to treatment.

Wendy’s Answer
Radiology is paramount to the practice of medicine and providing the best care possible. Radiologists are often referred to as “a doctors doctor” as they provide often critical answers, information and diagnoses for referring physicians.
Radiology also includes interventional radiology-which is essentially a surgical sub speciality. As an interventionalist, one performs diagnostic imaging and may perform therapeutic procedures.
