Jackie’s Answer

Hi Amy,

I encourage you to focus on what your career goals are for the future and then shape your internship experience around those ideals. Some of the most popular job sites online are offering internships, so I would urge you to start looking there. Utilize summer internship experiences as well they are plentiful right now. I've viewed many opportunities that are only available for the summer. I interned with QLife Uplift Solutions(http://www.internships.com/nutrition/dietetic-intern-i6478708) and they are currently recruiting interns. The benefit to this particular organization is the versatility in the internship experience, you can work directly on location or work as an Wellness Ambassador from home doing marketing research. I'm excited and confident that you'll find the perfect internship, best of luck.

Nim’s Answer

Hi Amy. I completed a more research oriented internship while working with academia and social service agencies on a project. I think it is important to think about your future career goals and what you would like to get from your internship in terms of professional development. It could be disease surveillance at the local health department, being a health educator for a healthcare organization, being a research analyst, working at a community organization in project coordination/management. Thinking about your strengths and what areas you would like to explore and grow upon while in school are things worth considering. I have attached some more nationally oriented internships that would be aimed at being completed during the summer. http://publichealth.med.miami.edu/graduate/career-services/internships Many local health departments specifically target public health students for internships and may be worth exploring. Using breaks and seeing chances to work at internships that may allow offsite work during the school year are things I would further investigate and pursue. Hope this was helpful, and I wish you the best of luck with your future professional and educational endeavors.
