Are there internships for people who want to be film critics?
I will be transferring to a school in Los Angeles next semester, and I want to know if there are internship opportunities for this career there.

Hello Alexis out there in Oceanside (I'm originally from San Diego). I'm not sure where you are intending to study, but I think a reasonable course of action might be to study film or film studies, and possibly double major with either journalism or English, or something related. It's quite probable you're already pointing in that direction. Once you've got school and a new city under control you can approach newspapers, or online news orgs like Buzzfeed, and similar, and try to pick up assignments. They'll want writing samples, of course. Do you have certain film critics that you follow? They might be willing to communicate with you directly and offer tips. Good luck!

Hi Alexis,
I think it could be worthwhile to seek out journalism internships that will let you be involved with writing film reviews. This could be anything from working for a local newspaper, media sites like Vice.com, popular film sites like Rotten Tomatoes, or even something like Ranker.com, all of which have offices in Los Angeles.
As you canvas these opportunities, be sure to be upfront in your interviews and mention this interest you have. And if it's really a passion of yours, it wouldn't be a bad idea to put together some writing samples to show your boss—these could be your own film essays, blog posts, or even social media posts, discussing and reviewing films and showing your style of criticism and point of view.
I hope this helps! Good luck :)
