A lot of healthcare organizations rely on Microsoft tools like Outlook, Excel, and Word for their basic needs. But when it comes to managing medical records, they each have their own preferred platform. For instance, in my neck of the woods - the greater Seattle area - Epic seems to be the go-to platform for electronic medical records. This handy tool doesn't just store medical data, but also provides a way for medical staff and patients to communicate via email when face-to-face meetings aren't possible.

Typically, local training programs use the same platforms that are popular in their area for their training software. This ensures you're already comfortable with the software you'll be using once you start working. So, it might be a good idea to check with your training provider about the platform they use. And if you have a dream employer in mind, find out what platform they use too, to see if there's a match.

Many organizations will provide training as part of your introduction, and it's definitely a bonus if you've already had some experience with the software. But don't be taken aback if they ask you to undergo training regardless of your previous experience. This is because each clinic may have its own unique set of rules and procedures for using the software.
