What would be the best way to prepare and get the experience that I need for a school to be willing to hire me?

They tend to hire coaches and teachers with more experience due to the fact that they have a resume that they can go based off. This makes it harder for those attempting to get experience for their resume. #teaching

Jenna’s Answer

What are you trying to get hired for? In general, you need to get an education or additional training in the field, you should seek that out. It would be a good idea to learn about people who are successful in their field and see what methods they used to get hired, and perhaps you can find a mentor (through LinkedIn or your school career center, for example) who can guide you in obtaining the experience you will need for whatever your goal is.

Monica’s Answer

Hello Nick,

What are you interested in pursuing as a career? I believe after you have figured out what you interested in then you can definitely narrow things down. But, in general, I would start volunteering in different activities within the community. This will help with networking and getting your name out there for others to observe your commitment to work. Then, when it is time to create the resume, you will have some experience to document and possibly references.

Monica recommends the following next steps:

Volunteer in the community
Involve in extra curricular activities

Phung’s Answer

Hi Nick,

First do you know what are your interests are and what subject / field you would like to teach?
Then, there is the grade level you like to teach? There are grade levels, and then there are professional levels?

If you are going for a school, then suggestion is for you to have a degree, or even work experience. Now, you can also try "mentoring" or "substitute teaching", which can be for a day or weeks.

Also, there is a lot of "volunteer teaching opportunities" out there, please check them out.

Many luck, and hope to hear you are sharing your knowledge with our future leaders...
