Hart’s Answer

That's great to hear you love school so much. I do too!

It's important to make sure you learn your fundamentals in math and statistics if you want to be a data analyst or data scientist. Many advanced topics in data science/analysis build on previous things you learn, so it's important to always pay attention in class!

I think it's important to always stay curious about other topics that aren't your main interest. Definitely explore your interests in data science and analysis, but also stay curious about other topics such as software engineering, product design, UI/UX, etc. For me, I thought I wanted to be a data scientist, but I eventually realized I prefer software development.

I'm glad to hear that you also like football, tennis, and basketball. No matter how much you love school and focusing on that, it's also important to focus on your health and stay active!

Hope this helps!

Paris’s Answer

From my perspective, to succeed in any area, whether data analytics or data science, it is essential to set clear goals. These goals should be the driving force that drives you to get up every day. Having a clear goal in your life allows everything else to revolve around it. It is essential to be disciplined, establish routines, be organized, respect schedules, fulfill your obligations and have the desire to improve every day. Maintaining balance in your life is crucial. What you mention about enjoying sport, attending school, socializing with friends, family and colleagues is vital as it allows you to get out of your bubble and gives you a broader view of what is happening in the world. Staying informed about the news, your environment and the context in which you live will provide you with the necessary tools to stand out. Don't be afraid to take the initiative and participate in the various contexts in which you find yourself. Getting out of your comfort zone is a great way to learn and grow. Regarding data analysis and data science, I advise you to establish a solid foundation in mathematics, with a special focus on statistics and stochastic processes. This will help you understand how the algorithms and tools used in these fields work.

Nathan’s Answer

Good for you Jasper!

I think that at your age it's important to try as many things as possible. It seems like you have that part figured out, so from here the skill is to figure out what you're good at. For example, does your coach play you a lot on your football team? If so, consider investing in this skill.

Do you find yourself enjoying and understanding computer science (this one will take time, so please be patient). If yes, invest more time and energy into these things.

Conversely you need to decide what to spend LESS time on as well, so please consider this closely. Around 10th grade, it's probably time to drop a few activities that you don't like.
