Is it possible to be a dancer, martial arts learner, pediatrician, missionary and still have time for my kids and family in the future?

I really want to be all these. They are my goals in life but I also don't want to abandon my children by traveling too much or not being a good mother to them. How can I balance all these goals?#college-advice #medicine #pediatrics #dance #martial-arts #career-choice #career-counseling

It is certainly possible, but you have to ask how well do you want to do each? I'm a father, scoutmaster, employee, and I do some other things but there is only so much of me to go around. I also need time to rest so I can enjoy these things and do them to the best of my ability. Being a parent is the most rewarding yet toughest job anyone can have. My children are older and don't need their parents so much but when they were young they need parents for everything, which takes time away from other things. My belief is do a few things really well instead of many things not so well. With that in mind, it's still good to try new things.

You certainly have a lot of interests. Some of these can dovetail, but some will require more preparation and can take a lot more time. If you really want to enter the medical field, that will need to be your primary plan, as you will need to get a lot of education and training. If you have children later in life, you might be able to establish a career in medicine and then have more freedom. The other fields will not involve the depth of education and you could do these as hobbies or recreational activities, perhaps now while you are still in school. Many students in medicine go to countries where there is need as well, and you can minister to people as you are treating them. I don't think this is impossible, but once you have a family, your options will be more limited, as their needs will often pre-empt yours. Best of luck!
