Hello, Tuesday !

It is always a smart idea to gain and maintain knowledge about a career you hope to have someday so it's good that you ask questions about it. Your question would actually be answered everyday when you go to college as an engineering major, so that's something to look forward to. As for how you can expand your awareness of the field, you can start out by beginning to read articles and information that are career specific.

The website Revolutionized lists some very good engineering magazines that you can consider subscribing to. The website for this list is at
https://revolutionized.com/engineering-magazines/

There is also a huge list at this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_engineering_journals_and_magazines

These will help you have an on-going awareness of what's happening in the field of engineering. As you become more enlightened, your inspiration will grow. Another way to become informed would be to take the mentoring internships at the New York City Science Research Mentoring Consortium. Their website is https://www.studentresearchnyc.org/ They are at Central Park West and just may be the place to start your on-going exploration for your career interest. They connect high school students with internships in STEM.

You can start learning more by joining clubs and extracurriculars that are connected to engineering. Read about some projects you can think about for the groups or clubs at https://www.veritasai.com/veritasaiblog/https/wwwveritasaicom/10-engineering-project-ideas-for-high-school-students There is a wealth of information and I think if you utilize any resources that already exist at your school, that would be a good start. You can inquire about it with your guidance counselor or any teacher.

Once you feel ready, start getting involved. It's okay to know the basics, the future developments will be made known to you if you maintain your interest, keep active and read the engineering trade magazines.

I hope that this has been helpful and I wish you all the best !

The future of engineering is focused on addressing the needs of the community and advancing the profession in several key aspects:

Sustainable and Green Engineering: Engineers are increasingly prioritizing sustainability and environmental considerations in their designs and projects. This includes developing renewable energy solutions, designing energy-efficient buildings and infrastructure, and implementing sustainable practices in manufacturing and transportation. The goal is to minimize the impact on the environment and create a more sustainable future.

Smart Cities and Infrastructure: Engineers are working towards creating smarter and more connected cities. This involves integrating technology and data-driven solutions to improve the efficiency, safety, and quality of urban infrastructure. Smart transportation systems, intelligent buildings, and advanced communication networks are some examples of how engineers are shaping the future of cities.

Automation and Robotics: Automation and robotics are transforming various industries, and engineers are at the forefront of this revolution. They are developing advanced robotics systems, artificial intelligence, and automation technologies to enhance productivity, improve safety, and streamline processes in manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, and more.

Digitalization and Data Analytics: The increasing availability of data and advancements in data analytics are revolutionizing engineering practices. Engineers are leveraging data to optimize designs, predict maintenance needs, and improve decision-making processes. Digital twins, virtual reality, and simulation technologies are being used to enhance design, testing, and maintenance processes.

Diversity and Inclusion: The engineering profession is actively working towards fostering diversity and inclusion. Efforts are being made to attract and retain individuals from underrepresented groups, promote gender equality, and create inclusive work environments. This focus on diversity and inclusion aims to bring diverse perspectives and ideas to engineering projects, leading to more innovative and impactful solutions.

Lifelong Learning and Professional Development: The rapid pace of technological advancements requires engineers to engage in lifelong learning and continuous professional development. Engineers are embracing new technologies, staying updated on industry trends, and acquiring new skills to adapt to the evolving needs of the profession. This commitment to ongoing learning ensures that engineers remain at the forefront of innovation and maintain their professional competence.

Overall, the future of engineering is centered around creating sustainable, connected, and innovative solutions that benefit communities and address global challenges. Engineers are embracing emerging technologies, promoting diversity and inclusion, and continuously learning to shape a better future for both the profession and society as a whole.
