Hello Blakes,

videogames offer a lot of opportunities for programmers, as well as visual effects and other artistic fields. Also the software companies that create the programs artists use (Houdini, Maya, Nuke, Unity, Unreal, etc...).
There are a lot of different professions within those fields that might be more coding oriented: technical artist, pipeline artist/ developer, technical directors... Also it might be worth checking out R&D departments in post-production or animation studios... Virtual production maybe also interesting.

Good luck!

Hey Blake,

Let's delve deeper into your question and dissect it into several smaller inquiries.

1. What are some potential career paths or industries that align with my interests in gaming and coding?
Answer: The world of gaming and coding is vast and filled with numerous career opportunities. You could be designing games, testing them, or ensuring they're compatible with various consoles. The key is to find your niche. What type of games captivate you the most? Are you into RPGs, FPSs, or something else? What aspects of these games draw you in? Once you've identified these, you can then focus on how to further cultivate these interests. For instance, if the physics of games fascinate you, you might want to dive into game engine development, like Unreal Engine. If you're intrigued by the narratives, you could collaborate with storytellers to create engaging plots that are feasible with today's tech.

2. I'm passionate about both and would love to explore opportunities where I can combine my skills and hobbies into a fulfilling career?
Answer: A great starting point would be to create and publish some mobile games on the Google/Apple stores. This will give you firsthand experience in game development. If your school or college offers gaming-centric courses, that's another excellent way to acquire relevant skills. Internships at gaming companies can also provide invaluable industry experience while you're still studying. It would be beneficial to discover which coding language is predominantly used in game development and enhance your expertise in that language.

Bear in mind, breaking into the gaming industry can be challenging and will require a lot of hard work. But with your passion and enthusiasm, you'll have the drive to keep going.
