Paul’s Answer

Pick something that you love to do so much, that if you were not paid for it, you would still do it anyway.

I had many students pursue careers, only for financial gain, but none of those individuals is still working in those occupations.

They resigned to find something they loved to do, and was fullfilling and a career they were passionate to do. Something where they could not wait to get in the office each morning, and were the last to leave in the evening.

Those are careers we all should pursue. Because if you are good and love what you do, the money and higher compensation always follows.

The best tip to pick a profession would be to choose what interests you and also what pays your bills. Choose a profession that you believe you can work in for the rest of your life. I had the option to choose to become a doctor but instead I choose to be a dentist. I love the field that connect with people and to help people. But I wanted to have a good work life balance without the emergencies and all. I choose the profession which takes care of both. I have known a hygienist who is passionate about dancing, but he realized that it won't pay his bills much, so as a safe profession he chooses to become a hygienist. So, if you can get into a career that pays well and what you have the passion for would be great to have a good stable life.

Hi Aaron!

As someone who wasn't forced into a role or hit with some life changing situation that made me devote my life to a career choice, the best tip I can give you when you decide to choose a profession is what do you FEEL like you want to do? Why is it that you want to do that job as well?

At the end of the day, are you looking for fulfillment with what you do, are you looking for a fat paycheck, are you looking for networking/connections? Technically you could do and get all these things from what you decide to do just based on your own passion into the field. Maybe you want to work more with your friends in their field - many people I know went into certain fields because they wanted to be able to work with their friends that they grew up with.

Hopefully, as someone who's switched professions MANY TIMES, this helps to give you some insight. It's a hard path, figuring out what you want to do in life, but at the end of the day never give up on yourself!
