Most animators are self-employed. What is the best way to share my animation if I choose to become self-employed?
I plan to become an animator for a video game or cartoon company.

Hi Keshaun,
The best way I can suggest that you share your animation is by creating yourself a showreel of your own personal animations. You can upload videos onto websites such as Youtube or Vimeo, or you could even create your own website with a portfolio that you can share to companies when you're looking for work.
Hope this helps!

I agree with the above, creating a show reel of your work, and putting it up on the web is easier than it's ever been!
Though, I would doubt that most animators are self employed, if you want to be a freelancer, self promotion is a huge part of client acquisition. You should have a social media presence on all of the big sites (Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and constantly be promoting yourself, and sharing your work.
Best of luck! And get website up for yourself!

A show reel of the work that I've done and marketing your work on various forums is the best way to go. Check out behance.com which has tons of work done by renowned game artists.
Secondly if you wanna go freelance then start off with a blog and share your work on communities of linkedin.com, this as per my experience goes has a number of animators who have worked on Halo, God of War, FIFA, Battlefeild, Modern Warfare etc.

Thanks to the internet, its easier than ever to promote your own work and make a name for yourself all on your own. Use it to your advantage - like everyone before me said, get signed up on youtube, twitter, linkedin, tumblr, facebook..whatever you can! You'll only make yourself available to more people the more places you have a presence in. Don't be shy about sharing your work - your process, your completed art, your successes and even your failures (and what you may have learned from them). I found when I was self employed both sharing my art and writing about my experience is a great way to get connected with your audience - and future clients too. When you're self employed, your name becomes your brand. Make sure everyone sees it!
Also, networking in-person is hugely important. Go to conferences (Siggraph, CTNX, AniMiami, etc ) and MEET people. Get critiqued by professionals, even if you dont feel you’re ready. Dare to suck! It can take a lot of time and a lot of money to do, but its really worth it. I've made my best connections and have met my best clients this way, as well as getting invaluable advice from my peers.
Good luck!
